Ferret War Dance & Dance of Joy

By , 22 February, 2010, No Comment

Ferret dancing is a unique behavior of all pet ferrets.  The dance of joy is a sure sign of complete and pure happiness and is a brilliant performance to watch.  The ferret war dance is hard to distinguish as it has all of the same characteristics as the dance of joy, even the arching of the back which is a ferrets way of making him look bigger and scarier, but an angry ferret usually sends a warning in the form of hissing or screeches.  Very angry or frightened ferrets will also let loose a musk spray bomb to ward off any unwanted situations.  If your ferret appears to be frightened or angry, make sure to approach it with caution, they can be prone to fear biting if they feel scared or threatened, which is a natural protection mechanism for the little furballs.

The ferret war dance is a sign of a frightened or angry pet, be careful if your pet ferret is displaying some aggression and doing this dance.  It is a good idea to evaluate what might be making your pet feel uneasy, remember, this is their way of trying to tell you something.  On the other hand, if they are doing the dance of joy, then enjoy their display of happiness and in knowing that they are content with you and their home.

The video below is a wonderful display of ferret dancing, in one form or another.  These little animals are a pleasure to watch as they play and challenge each other in their natural way of ferret dancing.
