Over the past few months, I’ve read several sad stories of people in distress due to the current economy. Many people have lost their once lucrative jobs, including myself. Unemployment helps somewhat, but the sad truth is that it’s just not enough for many of us, especially here in Southern California where the price of everything keeps going up, even in this time of high unemployment. I’m angry and appalled every time I open up one of my utility bills to find that, once again, the rates have increased. Of course you get the usual letter telling you that their costs have gone up and they have held on as long as they could, but now need to pass this cost to us, the consumer. The consumer who is struggling to make their mortgage payments or credit card payments and now their over-rated utility payments. All the while, these utility companies and the credit card companies are still making huge profits.
So what does this have to do with ferrets? Although ferret owner’s love their pets, many can no longer afford to keep them. Let’s face it, they are not cheap pets to have, they are prone to many diseases and other problems. Their housing, food and supplies can be costly too, and anyone that truly loves their little fuzzies, wants to spend the extra money for the really nice cages, hammocks and variety of toys. Then there is the food, which is not cheap, and if you really want to make sure your pet is getting it’s natural diet and nutrition, then keeping them on a diet of natural, live, holistic foods are pricey at best. If you opt for the processed foods, you may find that somewhere down the road, you will be facing some pretty drastic vet bills. And if the food doesn’t cause problems, then it may be something else that the little guy (or girl) ate, like the rubber off your remote control, phone or something worse.
So where is all of this going you ask? The economy has done much damage to many of us in a number of ways and for the unfortunate folks that can no longer afford to take proper care of their pets, they are looking for someone to adopt their precious little furballs. I see it all the time. I regularly read CliffNotes, which is an email publication put out by legalizeferrets.org, it seems that these types of posts or pleas for help to find good homes for little fuzzies, who are living with a distressed owner have become common. Therefore, I would like to offer to anyone who is in this situation, needing to find a home for their pets for whatever reason, to post their ad on this site. I have set up a special page called “Fuzzy Needs a Home” where you can post your information about your pets, any supplies you have to send with them (cages, toys, etc.) and whether you are looking for an adoption fee for your pet or just looking for a good home.
You will also be able to post a picture along with your adoption information. Don’t forget to include a link to your email or a telephone number, which ever you prefer, so that interested parties will be able to contact you, and it is also a good idea to mention your city and state. We all pray that our economy will recover and that everyone will be able to get back to work, our pets futures depend on it.
