In my prior post on Ferret Fun Facts, I mentioned the 1982 movie The BeastMaster.  If you’ve seen The BeastMaster, then you know how cool the two ferrets in the movie are.  I have seen trained animals that can do amazing things, but ferrets seem to have a mind of their own and a short attention span when you want them to do something, although Ferrets Can Be Trained!  And quite amazingly well.  This is one of the reasons that I love The BeastMaster, not only for the type of movie it is (I’ll explain more about it later) but because of these incredibly well trained ferrets who do amazing things that you would not think you could train a ferret to do, it is just awesome to watch. By the way, the ferrets are in a good portion of the movie, so they have a number of “acting roles” to perform.

The BeastMaster Movie Ferrets should have won an animal actor award for their roles and kudos to the trainer of these incredible pets.  I would love to have him or her train my pet ferrets to do some of these things.  Wouldn’t it be great to whistle and have your ferret come running and slip into your purse or carry-all pouch? For those of you who are interested, the BeastMaster Movie Review…

A sword and sorcery story, which eventually gained a cult like following.   The Beastmaster is a story about Dar (Marc Singer), who is the son of a king. Dar was stolen by a witch from his mother’s womb, under the command of a vicious sorcerer named Maax. A poor village man saves Dar and raises him as his own son  The villager teaches Dar to fight and protect himself.  He notices the boy’s strange ability to telepathically communicate with animals.

Eventually, the village where Dar and his adopted father lives is attacked by the evil Jun horde, a race of beast-like warriors controlled by Maax.  Dar vows revenge and journeys to his real father’s former kingdom to find and destroy Maax the sorcerer.  Along the way, he falls in love with a beautiful slave girl called Kiri (Tayna Roberts) and teams up with one of the former royal guards, Seth. Dar uses his abilities to communicate with animals, to enlist the aid of an eagle, a panther and two adorable ferrets named Kodo and Podo. Together, Dar and his animal friends catch up with the evil Maax in an impressive swordfight on the side of a pyramid and a showdown with the Jun horde near a flaming moat.

The animal stars play a big part in Dar’s journey, helping him along the way to ward off danger.   The character Dar, is somewhat of a Tarzan type of guy, but with a very different story line.  All in all, it is a fun and sometimes funny movie that has gained the hearts of many.  The movie was later made into a TV series. Watch the BeastMaster Movie Ferrets in action to see what these wonderful little guys can really do.  You can pick up a new or used copy of either of these two different BeastMaster DVD’s at Amazon.
